My husband, Desi Arnaz Jr., purchased this wonderful old theatre in 1998 after seeing it sit closed and lonely for over a year. It was built in 1932 during the construction of Hoover Dam by Fox Theatres. It couldn't compete with the new 12-theatre Cineplexes in nearby Las Vegas, so our little town lost it's only movie theatre. Desi & I were looking for a permanent home for our non-profit ballet company (BCBC) and he decided to buy the old movie theatre and renovate it into a live theatre. Now, 10 years later it's "alive & well."
Our dancer's fathers (we call them the Painting Daddies) volunteered their time to paint the whole theatre pink. And the City of Boulder City gave us a Redevelopment Grant to help us bring the theatre up to code with fire sprinklers and a fire alarm system. Then Desi put in all new plumbing, electrical, sound, lights & AC.
Altho we get alot of requests to rent the theatre, we usually don't rent it out because our ballerinas have classes & rehearsals on the stage. Desi hung mirrors for them on the back wall so it looks like a dance studio inside. Over the years we have presented alot of other events besides our ballet productions. Some of them are:
|
Ricci, Desi & Billy (Desi's band)
|
Love Letters
|
| Dam Short Film Festival |
Chautauqua |
| An Evening with Linda Purl |
Legacy of Laughter |
| Tribute to Dean Martin (Ricci's show) |
|

Desi hung mirrors on the back wall of the stage for our ballet company to rehearse and hold classes. Capacity is 380

The covered patio in front of the theatre is very quaint and a great place to hold our semi-annual Costume Sales
|
With backdrops & great lighting the theatre's transformations are magic. Here our ballerinas perform to "Prayer" by Charlotte Church & Josh Groban

"Let us out!" A cute picture of our dancers during dress rehearsal
